Researching the Garment District

I have been researching the NYC Garment District in order to gain some information on the area for a project I am working on for my Digital Design class. These are some of the interesting facts I have found:

1. The area began its manufacturing by producing clothes for slaves in south plantations
2. During 1850: ready-made soldier uniforms for the civil war were being made on a regular basis
3. 1910: 70% of womens clothes and 40% of mens clothes made in NYC
The manufacturing has declined currently due to outsourcing and cheaper labor. This is why mainly now the garment district is mainly a place for suppliers to sell their products, all of which include anything related to creating and producing garments. Here are some of the most iconic images from the area.
